Summary

Firefox 19 introduced a built-in PDF viewer which is used by default when a PDF file is served to the browser. When using Qualoupe’s “Preview” option to print labels and reports on a locally attached printer, the Crystal Reports server generates a PDF file that is sent to the browser to be printed. The built-in PDF viewer suffers from the same restrictions as printing from a web site, in that headers and footers may be automatically added depending on the configuration of the browser. This can cause problems when trying to print at a specific size, especially for labels.

Resolution

Open the Firefox Options screen (Tools > Options on Windows)

Select the Applications tab

Type “PDF” into the search box at the top

From the Actions drop-down select an alternative PDF viewer or other action to perform when viewing PDF files

Alternative Option

It is possible to completely disable the internal PDF viewer using the about:config screen in Firefox, by changing the value of the pdfjs.disabled setting. This approach is not generally recommended for end users, but may be useful for IT administrators who wish to deploy Firefox across a large number of machines.

Updates to Qualoupe LIMS from Two Fold Software allows laboratories to track sample certification documents

31 January 2013: Aylesbury, UK: Two Fold Software has introduced a new functionality to its Qualoupe LIMS software. Customers can now achieve full traceability for their samples’ Certificates of Analysis (COAs). COAs are vital in authenticating the purity and quality of samples and substances within laboratories. With Qualoupe LIMS, certificates for both individual and batches of samples can be created in just one click, with each assigned its own unique certificate and version number to allow for easy tracking. Users also have the option to get the relevant COA emailed straight to their inbox.

In many cases COAs are simply generated as they are required, without a unique certificate number and with limited traceability. This latest update from Two Fold Software ensures that the COAs are stored as PDFs alongside the sample or batch record, and that the version number is renewed each time a certification is run. Qualoupe users are therefore assured of always being able to locate the latest certificate, and may quickly look back to trace who certified each sample on what date.

Two Fold Software, based in Aylesbury in the UK, is committed to providing affordable, fit for service software to all sizes of companies across a range of applications. By considering the challenges faced when working within a laboratory environment, each update to the Qualoupe LIMS software helps users carry on with their work in a more efficient and effective manner.

Manually Removing Qualoupe Database files.

Summary

If you uninstall Qualoupe and the TFS Sql Server 2008 instance, the database files that Qualoupe created are not removed from your hard drive. This allows you to keep any historic data you may have entered into Qualoupe even after you have stopped using the application. The data can be accessed if linked to a different Sql Server 2008 R2 or later version of Sql Server.

Problem

Leaving the files on the machine after the uninstall process does however lead to other issues if you attempt to reinstall Qualoupe on the same machine. The installation process will try to create a new database with the same name and the creation will fail as the files already exist.

This problem can be seen once the installation has completed when you try to login you are sent to the error page. In the Windows Application Event Log you will see the following errors.

Message: .Net SqlClient Data Provider

27 November 2012: Aylesbury, UK: Two Fold Software has joined with Bibby Scientific to provide new Qualoupe Lite software for incorporation into Jenway brand 67 series spectrophotometers. Qualoupe Lite provides users with an intuitive laboratory information management system (LIMS) to automate data management and transfer. Using Qualoupe Lite, analysis results and method information can be transferred directly from the spectrophotometers to the database, removing the need for complicated traditional systems. The system is easy to use, with minimal training required to store and recall laboratory data, including the printing of result reports from the Sample Manager application.

“By creating a true Lite product that is affordable for businesses of all sizes, we make LIMS available to companies aiming to move towards automated laboratory data management,” says Clive Collier, Managing Director of Two Fold Software. “In the past there have been Lite LIMS products available, but the prices rarely made them accessible. This collaboration with Bibby Scientific means more companies can feel the benefit of an intuitive and effective Qualoupe Lite system without committing to large costs.”

Registering ASP.NET on IIS after installing the .NET Framework.

Summary

To run ASP.Net pages on IIS, ASP.Net has to be registered with IIS so that it can handle requests for ASP.Net pages. If IIS is already installed when a version of .Net Framework is installed then IIS is automatically configured to handle ASP.Net requests by the .Net Framework installation package. If IIS is not installed when you install a .Net Framework version then the registration process cannot happen and needs to be done later once IIS has been installed.

Resolution

There is a utility installed as part of a .Net Framework installation which allows you to register the version of .Net Framework with IIS once it has been installed, the utility is called ‘aspnet_regiis.exe’. The utility is located under %WindowsDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\vx.y.zzzz\ the Qualoupe application runs under v2 so you need the utility in the folder ‘v2.0.50727′.

Open a command prompt and navigate to the folder %WindowsDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\ and then enter the following command:

aspnet_regiis.exe -i

This will register ASP.Net with IIS.

Stability Job Maintenance.

Summary

The standard Qualoupe system is supplied with a Sql Server Job which creates stability samples on a timed basis. This job can be scheduled to run at specific time intervals dependent on your requirements. The default install of the job specifies that the job runs daily at midnight.

Check

To check that the job is installed, open Sql Server Management Studio and login to the instance of Sql Server hosting Qualoupe.

From the ‘View’ menu select ‘Object Explorer’ to enable you to see the objects installed on the Sql Server instance.

Expand the ‘Sql Server Agent’ object and then within that expand the ‘Jobs’ object. You should then see the ‘Qualoupe Stability: Scheduled Sample Creation’ job. If the job is not visible please contact support@twofold-software.com

Configuration

There are a large number of configuration changes that can be made to a Sql Server job, many are explained in the linked article in the references section below.

The main change that you are likely to want to make is to the frequency of the job execution. i.e. How often it will run and create your stability samples. To modify the frequency of the job execution right click on the job in the object explorer and click on the ‘Properties’ menu item.

From the left hand window select ‘Schedules’.

From this screen you can click ‘Edit’ to modify the existing schedule for the job, or you can add a new schedule which will run concurrently with the existing schedule unless you remove the existing schedule.

Within the commercial contract laboratory sector there is an increasing need for contract review when orders are placed by a client for new work.

When orders are received a review is carried out to check that the agreed numbers of samples and their testing requirements are in accordance with what was agreed with the client. Once completed the order status is updated to show the review was completed, by whom and when it was done, this provides clear evidence that the process checks have been completed.

In the real world things do change, so if a client does make changes to an existing job, such as additional samples or an alteration to the testing requirements then the job status would be automatically reset and the contract review process would be repeated. All changes to the job would be logged in the audit trail and the details of the new review would be recorded against the job.

Two Fold Software are committed to continually providing additional functionality that helps our customers businesses to grow by greater efficiency and cost savings.

UFL ‘u2lbcode.dll’ that implements this function is missing.

Summary

When you run a Crystal Report containing a bar-code the report doesn’t run and you receive an error containing the message “UFL ‘u2lbcode.dll’ that implements this function is missing.”

Cause

This error is caused when the u2lbcode.dll or one of it’s dependencies cannot be found by the process running the report. u2lbcode.dll is dependent on barcode.dll. Both are dll’s supplied with Crystal Reports Designer XI and earlier, later version of the Crystal Reports Designer have integrated bar-code capability.

Resolution

If the problem is being seen in the Crystal Reports Designer, then close the designer application before continuing. If the problem is being seen when using a Business Objects Enterprise installation then stop all the Business Objects Enterprise services using the ‘Central Configuration Manager’ before continuing.

The bar-code dll’s need to be copied into specific locations dependent on the operating system you are using, the dll’s to be copied are u2lbcode.dll & barcode.dll

Windows XP, Windows 2003 copy to “c:\windows\system32″

Windows Vista copy to “c:\ProgramFiles\BusinessObjects\Common\3.5\bin”

Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows Me copy to “c:\winnt\system32″

If you cannot locate the required dll’s the link to the Azalea website in the references has a download for the files.

Once the files have been copied on to the machine, you can then restart the designer application or Business Objects Enterprise services, the bar-codes will then be available.

HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

Summary

When you try to run a report from within Qualoupe or from the TFSReporting Portal you receive an error “HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.”

Cause

There is a known issue currently with rpc/http (which Terminal Services gateway uses) breaking 32-bit worker processes. A fix by Microsoft is due in a service pack. The TFSReporting Portal uses Crystal Reports 12 runtime components which are not available in 64 bit so the TFSReporting portal has to run in an IIS application pool which allows for 32 bit applications.

Resolution

There are two options to resolve this problem prior to the fix from Microsoft.

Uninstall rpc/http (and therefore Terminal Services gateway)

Find the entries for rpcproxy.dll in globalModules and modules in applicationhost.config and add a preCondition=”bitness64″ to those entries. This should cause your 32-bit app-pools to start working. To make rpc/http work though – you would need to either make sure that DefaultAppPool is in 64-bit mode or you move the /rpc and /rpcwithcert applications to an app-pool which is in 64-bit mode.

If you have problems opening the applicationhost.config file, see link in references below.

If you have other components installed on IIS such as Exchange then there may be additional steps please see links in the references section for additional information.
